Harris played the role of the spitfire Estelle Costanza, George Costanza’s mom, who always went back and forth trading insults and other absurdities with her husband (played by Jerry Stiller) during the run of the ’90s sitcom. Fans of all backgrounds would often tell Harris she was like their own mothers, saying to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in 1998, “She is the mother that everybody loves, even though she’s a pain in the neck.”
Aside from appearing in the hit show Seinfeld, Harris also voiced Mrs. Potato Head in the 1999 animated movie Toy Story 2 and played the recurring role of Muriel in the Disney Channel sitcom The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. She also appeared in guest roles on TV shows including the legal comedy Night Court, and in films like the 1984 gangland epic Once Upon a Time in America.
