James Michael Tyler reveals cancer diagnosis

Actor James Michael Tyler, who became famous for his role as Gunther on Friends, revealed some sad news. He said that he was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. James recently appeared on HBO Max’s Friends reunion and has had appearances in shows such as Scrubs, Just Shoot Me, and Sabrina, the Teenage Witch.

In a video shared by the Prostate Cancer Foundation, James said, “I was first diagnosed with prostate cancer in September of 2018. My specific cancer went to the bones before it could be stopped — before I realized I had it.”

He added, “If there’s one piece of advice I could give men out there to avoid where I am today, specifically, is get tested. Ask for a PSA test. I can tell you, you do not want to go through what I’ve had to go through the past two-and-a-half years… I wish I’d gone in earlier. It’s nobody’s fault, but yeah, if you want to stick around, get tested.”

James also talked about being in intensive care at the hospital and how he almost died last October. While he worries about leaving his wife behind, he hopes to help save other’s lives. He shared, “I accept this. I know this is what’s happened to me. I’m not sitting here crying all the time. I want to save lives. I want to help.”
