As an adult, she realized the competitive nature of auditions no longer interested her and decided to focus on a more meaningful career path. Her journey in education started when she taught history at Environmental Charter High School in Los Angeles. Over time, she helped launch a charter school, later becoming principal of Environmental Charter Middle School before moving into another leadership role within the organization. MSN reports that Cotler still works within the school system today. Instead of chasing Hollywood fame, she chose to shape young lives through education, a decision many fans now admire just as much as her acting career on The Waltons.
