The responses to the SAG nominations 2025 will also hint at how the Oscar awards will play out, as it shows what movies the voters favor over others. A fitting instance is the past year’s movies — Oppenheimer, Everything Everywhere All at Once, and CODA — getting recognized by the SAG awards and then their actors going on to win Oscars for best movie. Though likely, this is not always the case as Lily Gladstone of Killers of the Flower Moon lost her Oscar to Emma Stone, who played Bella Baxter in Poor Things. Fans have taken to social media to share their thoughts about the nominations list while debating those likely to win or lose. “Ever since influencers could vote for sag they love to remind us that with the nominations,” someone complained, while another was simply happy that Pamela Anderson was recognized in this year’s lineup. “Pamela Anderson getting a SAG nomination is single-handedly restoring dignity to Canada,” they gushed. It is Demi’s first individual SAG award nod, and it is likely that she might win. Another strong contender is Pamela for The Last Showgirl, which has similar lessons as The Substance as Pamela plays an aging showgirl trying to reinvent herself. Wicked is also enjoying positive attention from voters for the SAG awards; however, the nomination went to Jonathan Bailey instead of lead actresses Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. Timothee Chalamet is also getting propped up for a SAG award with James Mangold’s musical biopic, A Complete Unknown, for which Monica Barbaro also got some recognition for playing Joan Baez. Fans have expressed displeasure at Selena being overlooked by SAG despite earning a nod from the Golden Globes. “Like Emilia Pérez is a big highlight of Selena Gomez's acting career. I could care less about what experts with no expertise have to say,” an X user raged. Although Coleman Domingo got nominated at the just concluded awards for playing the lead in Sing Sing, SAG award voters did not think him deserving of a spot in the recently released list. This was also the case for Marianne Jeane-Baptiste, despite her being applauded by three major film critic groups, specifically Los Angeles, New York, and the National Society, for her portrayal of Pansy Deacon in Hard Truths. Even Angelina Jolie got snubbed for Maria, making fans wonder if the SAG Awards 2,500 are so tasking to please. “I can’t remember the last time a performance that was perceived as a sure thing for a nom after it premiered crashed and burned to this extent with awards,” someone complained.
