Marion Ross’ 2 Children Followed Her Into Show Business—Just In Different Ways

by Ruth A

Published September 17, 2026

Marion Ross became one of television’s most beloved mothers as Marion Cunningham on Happy Days, bringing warmth, humor, and plenty of “Mrs. C” wisdom to the Cunningham household for more than a decade. Away from the fictional family, the actress was raising two children of her own who would eventually build careers in entertainment.

According to Yahoo Entertainment, the story of Marion Ross’s children, Jim Meskimen and Ellen Kreamer, adds another chapter to the actress’s Hollywood legacy. While Jim followed his mother toward acting and voice work, Ellen found her place behind the camera as a writer and producer on some familiar television comedies.

Ross welcomed son Jim Meskimen in 1959 and daughter Ellen Kreamer in 1962 with her former husband, Freeman Meskimen. Jim became an actor, comedian, impressionist, and voice performer, appearing across television and film during a career that has stretched for decades.

Several of his movie credits created a particularly fun Happy Days connection. Jim appeared in Apollo 13, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and Frost/Nixon, all directed by Ron Howard, who famously played Ross’s television son Richie Cunningham. Ellen, meanwhile, pursued her own entertainment career behind the scenes. She worked as a writer and producer, with credits that include Friends, its spinoff Joey, and the sitcom Veronica’s Closet.

Long before her children established careers of their own, Ross spent years building the television legacy that made her “Mrs. C” to generations of viewers. She appeared as Marion Cunningham throughout Happy Days, which ran from 1974 to 1984, acting as the steady heart of a family that also included Howard Cunningham, Richie, and Joanie. Even Fonzie found a second mother in her, affectionately calling her Mrs. C.

Her career reached far beyond the Cunningham kitchen. Ross began acting in the 1950s and appeared in films and television programs before Happy Days made her a sitcom fixture. She later earned five Primetime Emmy nominations and continued performing well into her later years, including voice work. Now, the careers of Jim and Ellen offer another reason the Ross name remains connected to television history. The children of Marion Ross did not simply copy their famous mother’s path; they found separate places within the same industry, carrying a little of that Happy Days legacy into a new generation.
