Patrick Warburton Remembers The Surreal Time He Made Out With Carol Burnett

by Ruth A

Published August 26, 2026

Patrick Warburton has worked with plenty of memorable stars over the years, but one early experience still makes him laugh. Long before Seinfeld and Family Guy made him a familiar face and voice, the actor found himself sharing some unexpectedly romantic scenes with comedy legend Carol Burnett.

According to People, looking back at the experience, Patrick Warburton and Carol Burnett became an unlikely comedy pairing when he was just 27 and Burnett was in her late 50s. Warburton recently recalled that the scenes involved more kissing than he ever expected—especially with an actress he had grown up watching on television.

During an appearance on Nostalgia Tonight with Joe Sibilia, Warburton remembered a comedy sketch in which Burnett played both a good twin and an evil twin. Both characters happened to be dating the same much-younger man, played by Warburton, which meant he had romantic scenes with both versions of Burnett.

Warburton remembered Burnett having fun with the situation. After one take, she jokingly suggested to the director that they might need to rehearse the kissing scene again. He described her as “adorable” and said the moment was sweet, although he admitted the experience felt strange from his perspective. Because he had watched The Carol Burnett Show growing up, kissing her felt almost like “kissing mom.”

His Career Has Included Plenty of Unusual Costars

The Burnett story is not Warburton’s only unusual memory with a TV legend. He has also joked about filming a bed scene with 94-year-old Betty White and shared memorable stories involving Eartha Kitt. Warburton later became a nostalgia favorite himself through David Puddy on Seinfeld and Joe Swanson on Family Guy.

Away from acting, Warburton has also devoted years to charity work. His annual celebrity golf tournament, The Warburton, has raised more than $40 million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Still, the Patrick Warburton and Carol Burnett memory stands out because of how surreal it felt to him at the time. Burnett was already a television institution, while Warburton was a young actor finding his way in Hollywood. Decades later, he can appreciate just how unusual the moment was. Few actors can say they grew up watching a comedy legend and then ended up making out with her on camera.
