The Carol Burnett Show ran from 1967 to 1979, with Carol Burnett as the host and many comedians and celebrities showing up to grace each episode. It is arguably one of the top comedy shows of all time, with some clips, like the one with the Jacksons, still making rounds on social media today.
Along with Carol, Harvey Korman, Vicki Lawrence, Lyle Waggoner, and Tim Conway were major cast members, however, they each left at some point. They were established comedians in their own right, with Vicki being the youngest of the group. Decades after The Carol Burnett Show, only one other person aside from Carol is still alive.
Vicki Lawrence was the youngest of the ‘Carol Burnett Show’ cast
The Carol Burnett Show was Vicki’s first screen credit, and she caught on so quickly that she had parts in nearly every comedy sketch. She is best known for playing Mama Thelma Harper in “The Family” skits and even went on to reprise the character in her six-season sitcom Mama’s Family.
Unlike the other cast members of The Carol Burnett Show, Vicki is still alive and is currently touring the U.S. for her live show, The Vicki Lawrence and Mama: A Two-Woman Show. Her ongoing program still keeps her Thelma Harper character alive, proving the timelessness of her role.
Carol Burnett is still alive and well
Carol has achieved icon status with her comedy career run and is one decision away from breaking Betty White’s record of being the oldest person to host Saturday Night Live. The 94-year-old pioneered the appreciation of women in the comedy scene with The Carol Burnett Show, which faced a lot of gender-biased pushbacks.
Carol earned up to 25 Emmy Awards for her classic program, which, after it ended, came the short-lived Carol & Company. The mother of three is still active on the entertainment scene, having starred in Apple TV plus’ Palm Royale, for which she earned yet another Emmy nod.
