Meet Elizabeth Montgomery’s 3 Children And See Who Followed Her Into Hollywood

by Ruth A

Published August 14, 2026

Elizabeth Montgomery became one of television’s most beloved stars as the magical Samantha Stephens on the classic 1960s sitcom Bewitched. Away from the cameras, however, she was also a mother to three children whom she welcomed with her third husband, producer and director William Asher.

According to Hello Magazine, Montgomery died from colorectal cancer in 1995 at age 62, leaving behind an enduring television legacy and her children, William Jr., Robert, and Rebecca. Now in their 50s and 60s, the Elizabeth Montgomery children have largely kept their personal lives private, though each has pursued a creative path of their own.

Elizabeth Montgomery’s Sons Chose Different Creative Careers

Montgomery and Asher welcomed their first child, William Asher Jr., also known as Bill, on July 24, 1964. Rather than building a lasting career in television like his parents, Bill found his place in the music world. He owns Asher Guitars & Lap Steels and has crafted instruments for musicians including Ben Harper and Jackson Browne. He has also occasionally worked in entertainment, including on The Young and the Restless and a 2023 documentary about his mother.

Their second son, Robert Asher, arrived on October 5, 1965, while Bewitched was enjoying its early success. Montgomery’s real-life pregnancy even influenced Samantha’s storyline during the show’s second season. Robert eventually followed his parents into entertainment and built a career as an editor and producer. His credits include the 2022 Netflix series Instant Dream Home. Like his siblings, he keeps most details about his personal life away from the public eye.

Rebecca Asher, Montgomery and Asher’s youngest child and only daughter, was born in 1969. She pursued a behind-the-scenes entertainment career as an editor and director, with credits including Donnie Darko, Anchorman, Knocked Up, and Big Mood. Like her brother Robert, Rebecca entered the film and television industry, while Bill pursued music and instrument making. All three have maintained relatively private lives.

Montgomery married four times during her life. She welcomed all three children during her marriage to William Asher, which lasted until 1973. In 1993, she married actor Robert Foxworth, who remained her husband until her death two years later. For Bewitched fans, the Elizabeth Montgomery children offer another connection to the actress decades after her passing. While Montgomery remains forever associated with Samantha Stephens and her famous nose twitch, her children have quietly built creative lives of their own, with two carrying their family’s Hollywood connection into another generation.
