Melissa Gilbert Introduces New Laura Ingalls For Netflix’s ‘Little House On The Prairie’ Reboot

It’s not every day that a child actor is welcomed into a role by the very person who made it iconic. But that’s exactly what happened when Melissa Gilbert, the original Laura Ingalls, introduced Alice Halsey as the new face of Little House on the Prairie.

In an Instagram post on May 2, Gilbert revealed that Halsey would be playing Laura in Netflix’s upcoming reboot. “And…here she is,” Gilbert wrote. “Please give her a warm welcome to the Little House family!”

Alice Halsey may be young, but she’s no stranger to TV. She appeared in Lessons in Chemistry alongside Brie Larson and had a role in Days of Our Lives. Now, she’ll take on one of television’s most loved characters, a girl who’s bold, honest, and full of questions.

In Gilbert’s own words, Laura is a “disruptor.” She is someone who challenges the norm and shows us what it means to live with courage. That same spirit is what fans are hoping Halsey will bring to the screen. Netflix has not yet announced a release date, but the excitement is already building. For those who grew up watching the original, and for a new generation about to meet Laura for the first time, the Prairie is calling once again.

Netflix is bringing a fresh perspective to ‘Little House on the Prairie’

Netflix’s version of Little House on the Prairie aims to bring something fresh to the well-known story. According to early details, the show will combine family drama, survival challenges, and the beginnings of the American West. While it’s still rooted in Laura Ingalls Wilder’s books, this version promises to show a broader, more layered view of frontier life.

The announcement came just a year after the show’s 50th anniversary, which was marked by fan events all across the country. Gilbert, who has long stayed connected to the story and its fans, has often spoken about how the show helped many viewers cope with tough childhoods. “We taught a lot of lessons and provided a lot of escapist entertainment,” she told USA TODAY.
