Danny DeVito was recently celebrated for his amazing work in theatre. On Monday, March 10, he was presented the Jason Robards Award for Excellence in Theatre at Roundabout Theatre Company’s gala at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in New York City.
The accolade was for his extensive work in the Hollywood industry, initially beginning with Off-Broadway in the 1970s. The evening was not just an award ceremony, though. People that got to attend the event witnessed a heartwarming moment of one of television’s sitcoms.
The ‘Taxi’ cast had a reunion during the ceremony

More than four decades after Taxi ran its final show, the cast reunited to pay tribute to DeVito’s success. Christopher Lloyd, Carol Kane, Tony Danza, Marilu Henner, and Judd Hirsch joined him at the gathering, as did the show’s creator, James L. Brooks. The cast lined up side by side on the red carpet and later paid tribute to their old colleague on stage.
The surprise reunion had their fans excited, and Saturday Night Live‘s Rachel Dratch captured the moment on social media. She uploaded a photo of the cast and wrote that Henner even remembered the number of days since the show went off the air.
The ‘Taxi’ cast remained close to each other
The deep connection among Taxi’s stars has extended far beyond their time on set. Over the years, they have continued to support each other’s careers and personal milestones. Just last July, Kane, Hirsch, and Danza attended Henner’s Off-Broadway show The Journals of Adam and Eve.
Kane has frequently talked about the group’s long-standing friendship, sharing that their meetings are more of a get-together than a reunion. During the COVID-19 pandemic, they kept in touch with each other through video calls, keeping their bond intact even from afar. Kane shared that she and Danza spend lots of time together. She even managed to persuade Lloyd and his wife to rent an apartment in her building, bringing them closer still.
