Potts and Hamill had a friendly working relationship on- and off-set. Potts recalled in a 2017 interview that their time on set was a great experience, considering that Star Wars had just come out weeks before filming. Hamill was experiencing sudden fame, while Potts was shooting her very first feature film.
Although a newcomer to the profession, she remembered how Hamill provided advice and gave tips on lighting and camera direction that helped her through her debut lead role. Their friendship survived through the years, with Hamill regularly leaving witty and endearing comments on her posts.
A look back at ‘Corvette Summer’
Corvette Summer was Hamill’s first leading film since his Star Wars debut the previous year. It was also Potts’s breakthrough role, as she had only performed in television productions before she landed the role.
The film follows Hamill as Kenny Dantley, a high school senior, as he takes a road trip to Las Vegas to find his stolen one-of-a-kind Corvette Stingray. Potts, who played wannabe prostitute-in-training, Vanessa, met him on the way and accompanied him on the quest. The film showcased Potts as a comedic talent and earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best New Star of the Year.
