The One ‘Star Wars’ Prop Mark Hamill Will Never Sell

Mark Hamill Star Wars

The Star Wars prop category has fantastic keepsakes that improve with each release. Actor Mark Hamill, who has played Luke Skywalker since the classic’s inception in 1977, has his own set of treasured memorabilia, one of which stands out the most.

Among his enviable collection, the one thing Mark cannot part with is a special pair of boots, which is surprising to people who assumed it would be a lightsaber, his X-wing pilot helmet, or even a jar of Bantha milk, but Mark loves what he loves.

After an X-Wing fighter model from the sci-fi film got auctioned for $2.3 million, Mark remarked that he “should have kept mine.” Regardless, he still has his most valuable item from the very first film. “Don’t know their value because I’d never sell them,” he noted.

In 2017, Skywalker’s lightsaber used in A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back sold for $250,000, while Han Solo’s blaster from Return of the Jedi went for $550,000 the following year. So far, the most expensive Star Wars merchandise to be auctioned was an original R2-D2 prop at the whooping price of $2.76 million in 2017.

Mark is ready to retire from his famous role

In a 2023 interview on CBS Monday Morning, Mark revealed it was time to let go of his lightsaber and retire Luke Skywalker. “I just don’t see any reason to. Let me put it that way— I mean, they have so many stories to tell, they don’t need Luke anymore,” he explained. “I had my time, and that’s good. But that’s enough.”

He also expressed gratitude for the role that made him a household name, admitting that he never set out to be popular. “I mean, the truth of the matter is, I never really expected to be remembered for anything. I just wanted to make a living doing what I liked,” he added. “I thought, ‘Well, it could be worse. I could be, like, known as being the best actor who ever played Adolf Hitler, you know?’ At least Luke is an admirable fellow!”
