Melissa Gilbert, popular for her role as Laura Ingalls in the classic television series Little House on the Prairie, has once again thrilled the hearts of her numerous fans by joining the cast of Hallmark’s popular series When Calls the Heart. Gilbert recently teamed up with Michael Landon Jr., the son of her on-screen father, Michael Landon, who portrayed the character of Charles Ingalls on the show which was the staple of the late ’70s and early ’80s television.
The 60-year-old who took up the role of Georgie McGill reflected on the unique opportunity to work with Michael Landon Jr., who has now made a name for himself as a highly successful producer and director in his own right.

In a recent interview with PEOPLE, the actress talked about getting back together with her lifelong friend, with whom she spent her early years on the set of Little House on the Prairie. She conveyed her gratitude for the chance to collaborate with Landon Jr., characterizing the experience as really rewarding and based on her strong respect and trust for him.
Gilbert clarified that the working with the director went beyond a simple business venture, instead it represented a huge return to familiar ground, where she was surrounded by dependable friends who are not only encouraging but also dedicated to giving her the confidence she needs as she returns to the spotlight.

Following an invitation from executive producer Michael Landon Jr. during the Little House on the Prairie 50th Anniversary Cast Reunion and Festival in March 2024, Gilbert, who had been out of the entertainment business for a while, made a triumphant return to television by joining the cast of When Calls the Heart.
According to early reports, the actress was scheduled to make two cameo appearances in the 12th season of the show. However, on February 8, 2025, her first episode aired, bringing her back to audiences in a fresh and exciting role.
