Glenn Close, who played the iconic role of Alex Forrest in Fatal Attraction, had a rather unexpected encounter in New York City. While walking her dog, she found herself on the streets still wearing the infamous white dress from the movie’s final scene, stained with blood.
It was not until she was approached by three young women that Close remembered exactly how she looked at that moment. As they got closer, Close braced herself, unsure of how to react to their likely shock. To her surprise, the ladies were interested in her dog and not her appearance.
Glenn Close donated her ‘Fatal Attraction’ dress along with other costumes
Glenn is among the few actors fortunate enough to keep their costumes from movie sets. In 2017, Close donated her extensive wardrobe to Indiana University, which became part of the Elizabeth Sage Historic Costume Collection at the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture, and Design.
Among the costumes given away was the infamous white dress from Fatal Attraction. The design of this dress was meant to highlight the vulnerability of her character.
Glenn Close didn’t like the ending of ‘Fatal Attraction’
Glenn has been candid about her dissatisfaction with the original ending of Fatal Attraction. Initially, Alex tragically takes her own life after the affair with Michael Douglas’ Dan Gallagher unravels. However, after test screenings, the audience’s negative reaction to Alex’s character led to a major change in the ending.
The producers remade the ending, giving Alex a more violent fate. Glenn felt the new ending did not fit her character, believing Alex was not a psychopath, but a woman deeply hurt by betrayal. Although she was initially opposed to the change, Douglas and other members of the cast and crew persuaded Glenn to go along with it.
