It is hard to believe that it has been 30 years since Home Alone 2: Lost in New York premiered in theaters. The sequel, which follows Macaulay Culkin’s Kevin McCallister as he accidentally boards a flight to New York City instead of Florida with his family, did just as well as the original.
Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern returned as the criminals chasing after Kevin. 79-year-old Joe opened up about why he believes the second movie was a worthwhile sequel. He said that the cast and crew gave the entire production “the same, if not more, energy and enthusiasm as the original.”
Joe Pesci sustained serious burns while filming ‘Home Alone 2’
While it was generally a lot of fun, Joe revealed that he actually got very injured while filming. He sustained serious burns while filming one scene for the sequel. He began, “It was a nice change of pace to do that particular type of slapstick comedy. But the ‘Home Alone’ movies were a more physical type of comedy, therefore, a little more demanding.”

He continued, “In addition to the expected bumps, bruises, and general pains that you would associate with that particular type of physical humor, I did sustain serious burns to the top of my head during the scene where Harry’s hat is set on fire. I was fortunate enough to have professional stuntmen do the real heavy stunts.”
When asked if he would ever consider reprising his role, he said, “While you never say never, I think that it would be difficult to replicate not only the success but also the overall innocence of the originals. It’s a different time now; attitudes and priorities have changed in 30 years.” You can watch Home Alone and Home Alone 2 on the streaming service Disney+.
