It is official, the newest royal baby has arrived! Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have welcomed their first child together, a healthy baby boy. The royal baby’s arrival comes less than one year after Meghan and Harry wed in May 2018.

News first broke in October 2018 that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were expecting. Kensington Palace released a statement announcing the exciting pregnancy news. It was revealed that Meghan’s due date was in the spring of 2019. The statement added: “Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public.”

Harry and Meghan made headlines around the globe about their whirlwind romance. The pair became engaged and in 2017 and had a picture perfect wedding in 2018. Now, 2019 has marked yet another major milestone in their lives together. Man fans of Prince Harry were elated to learn he would be a father, as they believed he will make a great dad, based on his previous interactions with children, including his niece and nephews. Prince Harry once said, “I’m obsessed with children. I don’t know if they like me but you know they are great fun and you can never really say no to them.”

Prior to the arrival of the new royal baby, there had been no mention of the baby’s gender. This is typical of the royal family. When Prince William and Kate Middleton welcomed their three children, it was not revealed if they were expecting a girl or a boy each time. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have three children together, Prince George (5), Princess Charlotte (3), and Prince Louis, who was born last April.

The Duke and Duchess’s child will join the line to the throne, though it has been reported they do not intend to raise their child following strict royal traditions. Meghan and Harry’s child, regardless of gender, will be seventh in line to the throne once born. This will actually knock the Queen’s second son, Prince Andrew, down one spot.

The current line of success is:

  1. Prince Charles
  2. Prince William
  3. Prince George
  4. Princess Charlotte
  5. Prince Louis
  6. Prince Harry
  7. Harry and Meghan’s child
  8. Prince Andrew
  9. Princess Beatrice
  10. Princess Eugenie
