10 Classic Movies That Didn’t Deserve A Remake

by Jane Kenney

Published September 18, 2018

6. Psycho

movie
Paramount Pictures

Psycho was a film that came out of the 1960s (the year 1960 to be exact), which is easily one of Alfred Hitchcock’s best films to date due to its twisted nature. A remake of the film was released in 1998, and despite it starring Vince Vaughn, it simply could not live up to Anthony Perkins’ incredible performance of the main character, Norman Bates.

7. The Alamo

movie
United Artists

The original film for The Alamo came out in 1960. It is a retelling of a historical event in Texas history and was nominated for three Academy Awards. Since the film performed so well, it’s no wonder why it received a remake in 2004. However, it performed so poorly that pretty much no one knows there’s a remake of the original classic.

8. House on Haunted Hill

movie
William Castle Productions

House on Haunted Hill was released to theaters in 1959. It was one of Vincent Price’s most memorable roles and it is a classic film that everyone must see at least once. The ‘haunted house’ is as cliche as you’d think; filled with ghosts, murderers, skeletons, and more. The remake in 1999 had some initial success during its opening, but it was not memorable in the slightest.

9. Invasion of the Body Snatchers

movie
Walter Wanger Productions

Invasion of the Body Snatchers debuted in 1956 about one year after the novel version was released. It’s such a notable movie in time that even if you haven’t watched the movie, you’ve heard the name. The first of many remakes came out in 1978, then 1993, then 2007. The 2007 film was easily the worst of the remakes as it strayed very far away from the original.

10. Ghostbusters

movie
Columbia Pictures

The original Ghostbusters was released in 1984. It has become a household classic, especially during Halloween time! There was a 2016 remake of the film and while its total gross for its opening was pretty decent, many critics felt that the film was “underperformed.”
