Couple Finds An Old Bazooka Round While Making Renovations To Their Home

by Zack Walkter

According to CBS News, Newport News Fire Department Battalion Chief Jerry Reed said his team identified the couple’s unexpected find as a World War II-era M6 60 Caliber Bazooka anti-tank rocket. The bomb squad stored it in a secure bomb box so it could be turned over to the military at Fort Eustis.

A Newport News, Virginia, couple found a World War II-era M6 60 Caliber Bazooka anti-tank rocket when they tore down a wall in their garage.

WTKR

The Newport News Fire Department Bomb Squad, firefighters, and police responded to the couple’s home in the 100 block of Keith Road about 8:45 pm. Two neighboring homes were evacuated and other nearby residents were told to shelter in place, as a precaution, while crews inspected the device.

It is unknown why the round was hidden in the home, or for how long it had been there. If only walls could talk! Luckily, there were no injuries in this surprising case, so we can chock this up to an incredible find — one any history buff can surely appreciate.
