Pam Dawber turns 75 on October 18. She was the calm center of one of television’s wildest comedies, and then she did something rare in Hollywood. She went home.
Fans still ask where Mindy went. As Pam Dawber turns 75, the answer is that she has been exactly where she wanted to be.
From Detroit Model To ‘Mork & Mindy’
Dawber was born October 18, 1951, in Detroit. She worked as a fashion model in New York before television came calling.
In 1978 she was cast as Mindy McConnell opposite a little-known comic named Robin Williams. Mork & Mindy ran for four seasons, and her warmth gave his lightning somewhere to land.
She followed it with the sitcom My Sister Sam from 1986 to 1988. Her young co-star Rebecca Schaeffer was murdered in July 1989. Hello! reports that Dawber and her castmates came together afterward for a public service announcement.
Years later she reunited with Williams on his final series, The Crazy Ones. Do You Remember recently noted that she is the last surviving star of the Mork & Mindy cast.
Why Pam Dawber Stopped ‘Chasing The Business’

Dawber married Mark Harmon on March 21, 1987. They have two sons, Sean and Ty, and they will reach their 40th anniversary next spring. Harmon is 75 as well.
She has been frank about why the roles slowed down. “I just haven’t been interested in, you know, chasing the business,” she told Entertainment Weekly, as quoted by Hello!. “I just don’t want to put myself out anymore.”
Family came first even in the small decisions. She recalled turning down jobs near the holidays because her parents were coming to town.
She made one happy exception. In 2021 she joined her husband on NCIS for seven episodes as journalist Marcie Warren.
It was a reminder of how good she is. It was also proof that she will work when the reason is right, and few reasons beat sharing a set with the man she married nearly four decades ago.
