Chevy Chase turns 83 on October 8. He was born Cornelius Crane Chase in New York City in 1943, and he became a star in 1975 as part of the original cast of Saturday Night Live. The pratfalls made him famous. Clark Griswold made him part of the family, especially every December.
This birthday is one his loved ones once feared he would not see. He suffered heart failure in 2021 and spent about eight days in a medically induced coma, followed by weeks in the hospital. “[He] has basically come back from the dead,” his daughter Caley says in the CNN documentary I’m Chevy Chase And You’re Not, according to Fox News. The film premiered on January 1. Chase later spoke about the memory loss that followed, which DYR reported when he opened up about the health crisis. “Heart failure is what it is. I am fine now,” he says in the documentary.
Chevy Chase Is Taking ‘Christmas Vacation’ On The Road
He has plans for the holidays. His official tour site lists seven dates this year for ‘A Live Conversation With Chevy Chase,’ an evening that pairs a screening of ‘National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation’ with a question-and-answer session. His wife Jayni joins him on stage. The couple married in 1982.
The run opens on November 13 in Mankato, Minnesota, and wraps on December 10 in San Antonio, Texas. Fans who can quote every line of the movie will get to hear the stories behind it from Clark himself.
