Michael Landon became one of television’s most beloved father figures through his roles on Little House on the Prairie and Bonanza. Away from the cameras, his family life was even larger and more complex, as he raised nine children across three marriages.
According to People, the Michael Landon children formed a blended family that included adopted children, stepchildren he legally made his own, and biological sons and daughters. His family included sons Mark, Josh, Michael Jr., Christopher, and Sean, along with daughters Cheryl, Leslie, Shawna, and Jennifer. Their wide age differences and varied backgrounds reflected the many chapters of the actor’s personal life.
Michael Landon Welcomed and Adopted Children Across Three Marriages

Landon first became a father when he married Dodie Levy-Fraser in 1956. Dodie already had a son, Mark, from a previous relationship, and Landon adopted him after the marriage. The couple later adopted another son, Josh. Although Landon and Dodie divorced in 1962, the two boys remained part of the growing family he would build over the following decades.

In 1963, the actor married Marjorie Lynn Noe, who also entered the relationship with a child. Landon adopted her daughter Cheryl, and the couple later welcomed four biological children together: Leslie, Michael Jr., Shawna, and Christopher. After that marriage ended in 1982, he wed Cindy Clerico, a makeup artist from Little House on the Prairie. They had daughter Jennifer in 1983 and son Sean in 1986, completing a blended family of nine children connected through adoption, marriage, and birth.
His Family Remained Close During His Final Days

Balancing such a large household with a demanding television career was not always easy. Landon spent years working as an actor, writer, director, and producer, often handling several responsibilities at once. His daughter Leslie later said her father constantly kept himself busy and sometimes placed his health behind his work. Still, his children remained an important part of his life despite their different ages, mothers, and childhood experiences.

Doctors diagnosed Landon with pancreatic cancer when he was 54, and he publicly announced the illness only three months before his death on July 1, 1991. During his final days, all nine children reportedly gathered at his Malibu home to be near him. Eventually, he asked them to go downstairs so he could spend private time with Cindy. His youngest son, Sean, was still a small child, while his oldest children were already adults. Their presence together showed how the star’s complicated family history had ultimately created one large, deeply connected blended family.
