Paul McCartney Says He Is Completely Baffled By Influencer Culture

by Ruth A

Published May 15, 2026

Paul McCartney is opening up about one modern trend that completely confuses him: influencer culture. The legendary musician recently admitted that while he often sees social media personalities online, he still struggles to understand how some people become massively famous without obvious talent or artistic work behind them.

The Beatles icon shared his thoughts during a new podcast interview while promoting his upcoming album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane. Although the music legend continues embracing interviews and modern media, he joked that fans should not expect him to start making TikTok dance videos anytime soon.

According to Far Out Magazine, the singer explained that he mainly encounters influencer content when his wife scrolls through Instagram and shows him videos online. While watching some of those clips, he admitted he often feels puzzled by the level of fame certain creators achieve.

McCartney said he finds it amusing that some people attract billions of views despite not seeming particularly talented in the traditional sense. However, he quickly acknowledged that criticizing modern fame can make him sound old-fashioned before jokingly admitting that, at 83 years old, he probably is. The musician also reflected on how different success felt when he first started making music. During his younger years, he and his bandmates simply wanted opportunities, financial stability, and recognition after growing up in working-class families with limited expectations for success.

Fame Never Changed How He Sees Himself

Despite becoming one of the most famous musicians in history, the singer explained that his upbringing helped keep him grounded throughout his career. He credited his loving and hardworking family for teaching him humility and respect for ordinary life.  McCartney also said he avoids thinking too deeply about the scale of his global fame because it would overwhelm him. Instead, he separates the public image of “McCartney the legend” from the private version of himself, who simply wakes up and eats breakfast like anyone else.

The artist added that ambition itself should not embarrass people. He believes everyone naturally wants progress in life, whether through music, television, work promotions, or creative achievements. For him, fame became a byproduct of creating songs that genuinely connected with audiences around the world.
