‘Star Trek’ And ‘Cheers’ Actor Tom Troupe Dies At 97

Veteran actor Tom Troupe has died at the age of 97. Known for his prolific work across film, television, and Broadway, Troupe passed away on Thursday, July 20, at the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital in Woodland Hills, California. His longtime friend and fellow actor, Michael Bell, confirmed the news.

With a career that spanned more than seven decades, Tom Troupe left a lasting impression on American entertainment. He appeared in popular TV shows like Cheers, Murder, She Wrote, The Facts of Life, and Star Trek: The Next Generation, while also earning acclaim for his work on stage. He was married to actress Carole Cook for 59 years, until her death in 2023.

Born in North Kansas City, Missouri, Troupe began his acting career after studying with renowned teacher Uta Hagen in New York. His stage credits include a 1957 Broadway debut in The Diary of Anne Frank, as well as performances in The Lion in Winter and The Gin Game. Troupe’s command of the stage and his dedication to the craft earned him widespread respect in the theater community.
