Roseanne Barr is closing the chapter on a significant part of her career and making it clear she is not looking back. In a recent interview, the 72-year-old comedian shared that she no longer keeps in touch with any of her former Roseanne co-stars, and she is at peace with that.
The Emmy-winning actress said her relationship with the original cast, which included John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson, and Michael Fishman, has long since faded. While she recalled the good times they shared during the show’s early years, she acknowledged that they had all moved on, and so had she.
Roseanne Barr’s relationship with her former co-stars
Roseanne ran for nine seasons beginning in 1988, and fans and viewers loved Barr’s depiction of working-class family life. However, the 2018 reunion was cut short after Barr made a controversial comment on social media about a former government official, Valerie Jarrett, which was considered racist.
She was fired, the show was canceled, and a new spinoff, The Conners, was launched without her. The absence of Barr in the spinoff marred the relationship she had with her co-stars. In her interview, she acknowledged that they all enjoyed the time on the show, but she was disappointed about how things unfolded after her exit. Barr’s onscreen husband, John Goodman, later shared that he was not happy about her absence in the reboot. Since then, The Conners continued for seven seasons, concluding its run in April. Her son, Jake Pentland, confirmed earlier this year that Barr never watched an episode of the spinoff.
Life beyond the sitcom
In recent years, Roseanne Barr has taken a step back from the Hollywood spotlight. Living in Texas with her family, she enjoys a private life surrounded by nature. Despite the controversy that once made headlines, she is focused on the future.
Barr continues to work on personal projects, co-hosts a podcast with her son, and develops new ideas outside of television. Though she acknowledged that she has fond memories of her time on Roseanne, Barr emphasized that she has moved on. She wishes her former co-stars well, even if their relationship is no longer smooth.
