Billy Joel’s wife, Alexis Roderick, has spoken out for the first time since the singer revealed he was diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus. The 76-year-old music legend had announced on May 23 that he would cancel all upcoming tour dates due to the condition.
In a heartfelt message shared on Billy’s Instagram, Alexis thanked fans for the overwhelming support her family has received.“Thank you for the outpouring of love and support,” she wrote, alongside a photo of herself with Billy and their daughters, Della and Remy. “We are so grateful for the wonderful care and swift diagnosis we received.”

Billy Joel was diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), a condition where too much fluid builds up in the brain. This can lead to problems with walking, memory, vision, and balance. According to doctors, the pressure from the fluid can affect brain function if not treated properly.
In his own message, Billy said the condition had been made worse by his recent performances, which is why his doctors have advised him to stop performing for now. He is currently going through a specific kind of physical therapy under his medical team’s care. In the statement, he said: “I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding.” His team also mentioned that he is committed to getting better and is thankful for all the support.
It has been a tough year for the Joel family
This health news follows what has already been a difficult year for the Joel family. Earlier in the year, Billy postponed some shows after undergoing surgery. In February, he also fell onstage during a concert in Connecticut. Though he was able to continue the show, fans were concerned about his well-being. On top of that, Alexis revealed earlier this month that she has also been battling her own health issues. She opened up about her struggle with endometriosis, a condition that causes severe pain and other symptoms. Alexis said getting a diagnosis took time, and it was especially hard while raising two young children.
Still, she praised Billy for how supportive he has been throughout her journey. “He’s extremely supportive,” she told Fox News Digital. “He picks up where I leave off and helps cover for me when I can’t do certain things. He’s even been sending me articles about endometriosis.” Fans who bought tickets to Billy’s canceled shows in cities like New York, New Orleans, Toronto, and Liverpool will be refunded automatically.
