Disney’s long-running Freaky Friday series is back with another body-swapping adventure, and this time, the sequel titled Freakier Friday, will hit cinemas on August 8. The original film that kicked off the franchise in 1976 starred a young Jodie Foster alongside Barbara Harris.
Over the years, it inspired TV movie spin-offs and even a stage musical before Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis revived the concept in the 2003 blockbuster version. Her original role as Annabel in the 1976 film helped define the movie’s charm and made her one of the standout young stars of her time.
Jodie Foster refused to be take a cameo role for ‘Freakier Friday’

Director Nisha Ganatra, who leads the new film starring Lohan and Curtis, shared how hard they tried to get Foster on board. They wanted the Oscar-winning actress to appear in a small role, possibly as a teacher or school principal in Anna’s life. Despite the excitement and detailed planning, Foster declined. The director admitted she was never told why.
One possible reason could be tied to Foster’s long-standing approach to her film career. In a past interview, she spoke about her early work as a child actor, including her experience doing both Freaky Friday and Taxi Driver in the same year. She wanted to avoid being locked into one type of role and preferred more complex characters as her career progressed.

This time, the storyline brings in a new generation, with Anna now grown up and dealing with a blended family of her own.
