Richard Karn didn’t set out to lose weight for attention, but he’s clear about one thing: it worked. The Home Improvement actor dropped 30 pounds last year with his wife and hasn’t looked back since. Even so, he isn’t turning it into a lifestyle brand.
The fitness change began after he realized the need for balance. Instead of skipping everything he enjoyed, Karn made his meals smaller, added exercise, and drank more water. These days, at 69, he says he feels lighter, and his doctors agree, his clothes fit better, too. However, even with that progress, he still wants a slice of pizza once in a while.
Richard Karn advises moderation despite his staggering weight loss
Karn believes extreme dieting causes more problems than it solves. He sticks to what he calls simple changes. Less meat, more vegetables, and being mindful not to overdo it, even with water. He says too much of anything can make people feel worse, not better. That’s been his message since he started taking his health seriously.
His workout plan isn’t complicated either. Pilates is now part of his weekly routine, primarily to help him improve his golf game. He says it keeps his body moving the way it should, especially the hips and knees. For Karn, the real goal is staying active enough to keep doing what he enjoys.
Apart from his health, Richard Karn also focuses on his new partnership with DoMyOwn
Karn’s energy isn’t just focused on health; he’s also working with DoMyOwn, a lawn care brand that gives homeowners expert advice and products. Growing up in Seattle, he says, keeping a clean yard was part of life. Now he’s helping others do the same.

DoMyOwn allows users to ask questions, watch guides, and learn how to address common lawn issues. Karn likes that it’s not just about buying products, but also about knowing how to use them effectively. As the company’s new face, he’s sharing what he knows and helping people better understand their own space.
