Rob Lowe had an unexpected celebrity mix-up while minding his business in Hollywood. The actor, known for roles in The Outsiders and Parks and Recreation, was recently misidentified by a tour guide driving a bus full of sightseers. The guide excitedly announced to the group that they were looking at “Full House” star John Stamos.
Lowe didn’t let the moment slide; a video posted online captured his stunned reaction. After expressing disbelief, he walked up to the bus, asked the tourists who they thought he was, and jokingly scolded the tour guide for getting it wrong. The guide laughed it off, admitting the job comes with unpredictable moments like that.

Fans and fellow celebrities had plenty to say once Lowe shared the moment on social media. He tagged his son, John Owen Lowe, asking if he was being pranked. His son didn’t miss the chance to joke back, saying, “The people have spoken.” Another fan imagined shouting out Lowe’s classic St. Elmo’s Fire line, “I love you, Billy from the roof!” during the tour.
Actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley also joined the fun, commenting, “I love you, John Stamos!” The comment section also quickly turned into a playful debate about whether Lowe and Stamos were really just the same person.
Rob Lowe has always been compared to John Stamos
This isn’t the first time the two actors have been mixed up. Rob Lowe’s own son has turned the joke into a full-time bit. Just last month, he posted a heartfelt birthday message to his father, paired with a photo of Stamos instead. The prank didn’t end there; at the Unstable season two premiere, he even photoshopped Stamos’ face over Lowe’s in press photos and joked about working with “his dad.”
The running joke has even made it to TV. During a 2023 visit to The Drew Barrymore Show, the father-son duo got a surprise message from Stamos himself. The actor leaned into the joke, saying he was a better-looking version of Lowe, clearly enjoying the decades-long confusion between them.
