Haley Joel Osment, widely known for his role in The Sixth Sense, is back in the news for reasons far from his acting career. On April 8, the 36-year-old actor was arrested in Mammoth Lakes, California, and charged with misdemeanor counts of cocaine possession and public intoxication. According to a press release from Mono County, Osment will appear in court for arraignment on July 7.
Footage from the arrest shows a visibly agitated Osment resisting as officers tried to place him in handcuffs. During the lengthy drive to the station, the actor continued his verbal outburst, accusing the officer of kidnapping and using an antisemitic slur.

In response to the public backlash that followed the release of the arrest footage, Osment issued a formal apology through a statement to People. He expressed shock and shame over his behavior, stating that he had no memory of using the offensive language.
He attributed his state to a blackout and admitted that personal hardships, including losing his home in the January California wildfires, had left him emotionally unstable. Though he acknowledged the pain his words caused, especially to the Jewish community, Osment said he did not expect forgiveness. Instead, he promised to take accountability and atone for the damage caused by his words.
Haley Joel Osment has once had a run-in with the law in the past
This incident adds to Osment’s history of legal troubles over the years. In 2006, at just 18, he was involved in a solo car accident and later charged with misdemeanor drunk driving. He entered a no-contest plea and received a sentence that included three years of probation.
Twelve years later, in 2018, Osment found himself in another public dispute, this time at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas. After missing a flight on Super Bowl Sunday, he allegedly got into a verbal altercation with airline staff the next morning when he was denied a confirmed seat. Law enforcement was eventually called to handle the situation due to his aggressive behavior.
