Valerie Bertinelli made an unexpected admission during a new appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show. Bertinelli, known for her long acting career and her years as part of the Van Halen spotlight, joined Barrymore to discuss the new Beatles biopic project led by Sam Mendes.
The conversation quickly shifted, though, to what a Van Halen version of such a film might look like. While the idea of a biopic based on one of rock’s biggest bands may sound exciting, Bertinelli’s reaction to the idea of a film being made was anything but enthusiastic.

Bertinelli said she had no interest in watching a Van Halen biopic while she’s alive. She admitted that she had told her son Wolfgang Van Halen that if Hollywood ever attempts to make the film, they should wait until she’s gone.
Despite her strong stance, she also joked that if anyone were to play her, it could be Selena Gomez, but she added that she hopes Selena never takes the role. Her reluctance comes from how personal the story would be. As someone who spent decades close to the band’s history, she doesn’t seem ready to see their lives interpreted on screen.
Valerie Bertinelli doesn’t want to be compared to Yoko Ono
During the interview, Bertinelli also addressed how she was once compared to Yoko Ono. The comparison came from fans who believed her relationship with Eddie Van Halen affected the band. She responded with humor, saying she had once been blamed for the group’s breakup, similar to how Yoko Ono was accused of splitting the Beatles.
She was clear about setting the record straight. According to her, Van Halen already had problems as a band, and none of it was solely Eddie’s fault. Eddie, who died in 2020, played guitar for the band since its start in 1972. Valerie defended his legacy, saying he just wanted to focus on his music and that the drama behind the scenes wasn’t about any single person.
