Wheel of Fortune became a wheel of love for one of their contestants earlier this year! In a heartwarming moment on the show, former contestant Rhea Mathew received an unforgettable surprise when her boyfriend proposed to her on the show. As part of the game show’s 50th anniversary celebration, hosts Ryan Seacrest and Vanna White helped coordinate the memorable on-air proposal that stunned the audience and Rhea.
Rhea previously appeared on Wheel of Fortune in October 2023 but returned to the set under the impression she was helping to commemorate the show’s milestone anniversary. Instead, her visit became one of the most romantic moments the game show has ever featured.
Rhea Mathew on ‘Wheel of Fortune’
Rhea Mathew made an impression during her first appearance on Wheel of Fortune, but returning to the stage in January 2025 captured fans’ hearts. The episode aired on Thursday, Jan. 9, during the show’s 50th season. Hosts Seacrest and White welcomed her back with smiles, hinting that something special would unfold. Unbeknownst to Rhea, the show’s team had been contacted by her boyfriend, Robin, who wanted to propose in a big way.
As Rhea stood at the puzzle board, she carefully pieced together the answer: “WILL YOU MARRY ME?” Thinking it was part of the segment, she smiled until Robin walked out from behind the scenes, dropped to one knee, and popped the question. “Rhea Susan Mathew, will you marry me?” he asked as the crowd erupted in applause. Visibly shocked, Rhea nodded tearfully and said yes.
A Moment to Remember
After the surprise proposal, Seacrest and White returned to the screen to reflect on what had happened. The show later shared the special moment on social media with a caption, “Screaming, crying, losing our minds over this sweet Wheel proposal! 😭”
Rhea herself commented on the clip, expressing her joy and gratitude. Maggie Sajak, daughter of longtime former host Pat Sajak and the show’s current social correspondent, was also on set. She shared behind-the-scenes clips and revealed that Rhea thought she was there for a second chance at puzzle-solving.
