Wendy Williams has been fighting to end the court-ordered guardianship that has controlled her life since 2023. She believes that it is long overdue and thinks it will be lifted soon. Fans have also shown their support, as they gather outside her assisted living facility to protest for her freedom.
She remains optimistic and very convinced that the court will rule in her favor. As she awaits the court’s decision, she is already making plans for what she wants to do once she regains control over her life and her finances.
Wendy Williams’ health led to the guardianship
In 2023, Williams was diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). This diagnosis has brought concerns about her mental state, and because of this, the court placed her under guardianship and restricted her ability to manage her health and finances. She now lives in a luxury assisted-living facility in New York, where only her court-appointed guardian, Morissey, has unrestricted access to her.
Williams’ healthcare advocate, Ginalisa Monterroso, revealed that Wendy agreed to the guardianship because she thought it was a temporary measure. She didn’t realize it meant she would lose access to her own phone and the internet. She fought back, insisting she had been unfairly stopped from accessing her own money.
Wendy Williams has two big plans after her guardianship ends
The former talk show host already knows what she wants to do once she regains control of her life. First on her list is falling in love. She admits she can’t wait to fall in love again, despite her rocky history with relationships. Though her split from ex-husband Kevin Hunter made headlines, she isn’t letting that stop her from finding happiness.
Though she plans to live in New York, she’s also eager to travel. She also dreams of flying to different places, especially Paris, where she fell in love with the food and culture. She’s ready to step back into the life she once had and remind everyone that despite the challenges, she’s still strong, successful, and looking ahead.
