Warner Bros. made yet another controversial move by removing its classic Looney Tunes animated shorts from the streaming site Max. The cartoons produced between 1930 and 1969 introduced the generations to beloved characters like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and Porky Pig.
Their removal is also a part of the company’s ongoing shift towards prioritizing more adult and family content, as children programs are reported not to have enough viewership to justify its presence on the platform. While the original series of Looney Tunes no longer exists, there are some shows related to it still present on the platform, offering a very limited option for the fans.
What ‘Looney Tunes’ shows are still present on Max?
Despite removing the first shorts, other forms of the series franchise can still be streamed on Max. These include six seasons of the 2020 series Looney Tunes Cartoons, two seasons of the 2015 New Looney Tunes, and two seasons of the 2002 Baby Looney Tunes.
Additionally, two seasons of the 2023 Tiny Toons Looniversity, five seasons of the 1995 The Sylvester and Tweety Mysteries, and two seasons of the 2022 Bugs Bunny Builders can be viewed. However, even with these spin-offs, there are no full Looney Tunes shows available on the service.
Not the first show
The carton series is not the first to be affected. A bit over a year ago, the studio shelved Coyote vs. Acme, a fully scripted live-action and animated hybrid film that would have featured Wile E. Coyote suing Acme Corporation for its faulty products. The movie cast had Will Forte as the lawyer representing Wile E., with John Cena playing the CEO of Acme.
Even though done and set to be released, Coyote vs. Acme was dropped from Warner Bros‘, purportedly in an attempt at saving on costs. Fans and crew were disappointed, with Forte left in disbelief at this decision and referring to it as being unjust.
