
Don Johnson, best known for his portrayals in movies such as Miami Vice and Nash Bridges, has always approached his parenting with the same level of dedication that he brings to his career. As a father of five children, the actor has a very firm policy when it comes to his kids. He believes that they must either pursue higher education or find a way to support themselves financially.
In a candid interview, the A Boy and His Dog actor revealed that his commitment to his policy made him cut off his daughter from the family payroll after she decided to follow in his footsteps by venturing into acting.

While appearing on Good Morning America to promote his new Hulu show Doctor Odyssey, Johnson disclosed that there was a well-known rule in the family which was that every child must have a college degree or risk being taken off the family payroll.
He explained that his daughter, Dakota, after graduating from high school, voiced her lack of interest in going to college as she wanted to take up a career in the movie industry. The actor stated that to put her back in her right senses, he brought up the conversation about her losing her funding from the family fortune.

Johnson said that instead of being afraid, Dakota remained defiant as she stood by her decision. He noted that shortly after their discussion, the 35-year-old landed her debut role as Amelia Ritter in the 2010 movie, The Social Network.
Staying true to her word, the West Side Story star noted that his daughter has since then progressed in her career, featuring in an array of movies such as Black Mass, How to Be Single, Suspiria and the lead role in the erotic Fifty Shades film series, thus turning her into a successful actress with several recognitions such as a BAFTA Rising Star Award nomination as well as feature in the 2016 Forbes 30 Under 30 list.
