Jon Bolerjack, a former assistant to Stan Lee and a trusted member of his inner circle, has taken up the duty of shedding light on the challenges faced by the comic book legend in his final years through the documentary Stan Lee: The Final Years, a project he claimed to have invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in.
In the newly released trailer, Bolerjack questioned the previous narratives peddled by media outlets, claiming they did not fairly depict Lee’s circumstances. He noted that the late writer’s condition was far more severe than the public had been led to believe, revealing that Lee was not only struggling with health problems but also in a major financial disaster at the time of his death. It also showed that despite his failing health, several individuals within his circle forced him to attend book signings which continued to impact his well-being.
Jon Bolerjack says Stan Lee supported the filming of the documentary
Bolerjack explained that even though the Marvel co-creator maintained a deep sense of privacy, he was fully in support of the idea of the documentary.
He noted that Lee’s approval was probably born out of his desire to warn let the world know about his struggles and warn other creatives to avoid the pitfalls he encountered in his career.
