Brady Bunch star Maureen McCormick has been an advocate for the disabled, using her fame to support equal rights and accessibility for everybody. For several years, the 68-year-old has been offering support for events that uplift people with disabilities.

She was named a Global Ambassador for Special Olympics International in 2020, affirming her commitment to the cause. Her passion is also personal as her brother, Denny, has intellectual disabilities, and she has often discussed how having him as a sibling shaped her understanding of kindness, acceptance, and the power of words.

On March 5, McCormick took to her social media platform to call for an end to the use of the “R-word,” stating that it should never be uttered as a joke or to ridicule individuals. She highlighted how words can inspire or hurt and urged her followers to resist hurtful words, bullying, and exclusion.

Her heartfelt message was posted with a nice picture of herself and Denny in the same light blue shirts with “Spread the Word” written on them. The post was part of the Spread the Word Day campaign, a campaign aimed at spreading respect and acceptance for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Encouraging her followers to take the pledge, McCormick emphasized that words matter and being kind should be the order of the day.
