Why Patricia Heaton Doesn’t Want Reboots Of ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’ Or ‘The Middle’

Published February 25, 2025

Television reboots are now the rave. Studios, streaming platforms, and original creators are bringing back old favorites for a new generation. However, Patricia Heaton has no interest in revisiting her past roles. The award-winning actress, known for Everybody Loves Raymond and The Middle, believes some shows are better left untouched. While fans may hope for a revival, Heaton has her reasons for keeping the past in the past.

Despite joking about Hollywood’s reboot craze, Heaton is firm in her stance. She considers Everybody Loves Raymond a masterpiece that doesn’t need revisiting. The loss and absence of important cast members also make a revival nearly impossible.

Why there won’t be a reboot of ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’

For Heaton, Everybody Loves Raymond was more than just a sitcom; it was a perfect television show. She explained that the show captured something special, and trying to recreate it wouldn’t feel right. More importantly, the passing of Peter Boyle (Frank Barone) and Doris Roberts (Marie Barone) means the series would never be the same. Even Ray Romano, who starred as Raymond, has said he’s “protective” of the show and wouldn’t want to change its legacy.

Beyond the cast, the show was personal. Romano’s real-life experiences inspired much of the storyline, making it feel authentic and irreplaceable. Heaton echoed this sentiment, recalling how much fun they had on set. To her, Everybody Loves Raymond was a product of its time, and that’s exactly how it should stay.

Patricia Heaton wants ‘The Middle’ to remain in the past

While The Middle had a different tone, Heaton feels just as strongly about keeping it in the past. The show followed the chaotic yet lovable Heck family, and its series finale gave fans a satisfying conclusion. She believes the flash-forward ending allowed viewers to see where each character ended up, making a reboot unnecessary. Instead of revisiting the past, she’s happy seeing a new generation discover the show through streaming.

Heaton compared these sitcoms to classic works of art; she shared that they are meant to be enjoyed as they are. While she has no plans to revive her most famous roles, she’s not done with comedy. She’s currently working on new projects, ensuring there are new sitcoms for both the old and present generation.
