Michael Jackson’s death in June 2009 was a global shock. The legendary musician reportedly died due to cardiac arrest at his mansion in Los Angeles. Although he received medical attention almost immediately, he was confirmed dead only two hours later.
Autopsy results would later indicate that the reason behind his death was a drug overdose. In the middle of the chaos was Jackson’s personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, who claimed he was only doing Jackson’s final wish.
What were Michael Jackson’s last words?
During an inquiry into his death, Dr. Murray had admitted that Jackson’s final desire was to have “milk,” which was his slang for propofol. This revelation was made during his trial after the defense argued, saying the singer had used other tranquilizers independent of supervision. They also mentioned that Jackson swallowed eight tablets of lorazepam and then self-administered a shot of propofol, which led to a cardiac arrest.
Murray explained that Jackson had insisted because he believed it was the only way he could get some sleep. The investigators drilled Murray, asking if Jackson had issued some instructions regarding drug administration, and the accused doctor simply attested that Jackson requested sleep.
Dr. Murray went to jail over Michael Jackson’s last words
The judge finally declared Dr. Murray guilty of involuntary manslaughter and ruled that his failure to check the status of Jackson and his negligence in administering the drug propofol caused the death of the singer. The prosecutors claimed that Murray had violated basic medical procedures, such as providing adequate equipment to treat Jackson’s breathing and keeping an eye on him after he had given him the drug.
As a result of this, the court sentenced Murray to four years in prison, which was the maximum time for involuntary manslaughter. However, due to prison overcrowding and his good behavior, Murray served only two years before his release. Sadly, his medical license was revoked, making him unable to practice medicine.
