What Michael Jackson’s real voice sounded like

Michael Jackson had an endearing voice, not just when he sang but also in his speech. His soft-spoken nature was one of the qualities fans admired, but they were in for a surprise upon learning what he really sounded like while talking.

A viral clip from 1997 showed the late King of Pop using his natural deep voice while singing “In The Closet,” for his HIStory tour. The now-resurfaced footage is sparking fresh reactions on social media, as many are shocked to learn Jackson could switch so easily.

A few sources, including Jackson’s celebrity friends, have admitted to hearing his deep voice. One of his closest pals, Chris Tucker, described the experience as listening to a whole different personality, while Liza Minnelli recalled being shocked to hear him on the phone with her ex-husband David Gest.

According to Jackson’s former doctor Conrad Murray, his father forced him to take growth hormones as a child according to This Is It! The Secret Lives of Dr. Conrad Murray and Michael Jackson. The author of Be Careful Who You Love: Inside the Michael Jackson Case, Diane Dimond, noted that Jackson’s voice changed based on his mood.

The internet reacts to Michael Jackson’s real deep voice

Shocked fans could not believe their ears upon watching the 1997 video and took to social media to share their thoughts. “These videos make you believe the gangsta stories about Mike,” someone joked, while some argued he was lip-syncing instead. “It always seemed to me, he lip-syncs most of the time. Still great showman and great songs,” a doubting user said.

Some defended the late King of Pop from lip-syncing accusations, explaining that he had laryngitis during his HIStory tour but performed live on every other stage. “No…he had health issues. Watch his rehearsals for his last “This is it” tour before his death in 2009…he sings live and he sounds perfect,” they said.
