John Candy‘s son, Chris Candy, had no idea he was about to be part of one of the biggest commercials of the year. When he auditioned for a role in what seemed like an ordinary ad, he had no idea it would be airing during the Super Bowl.
Beyond the excitement of appearing in a major ad, Chris reflected on what the moment would have meant to his father. John Candy was a massive football fan, even co-owning the Toronto Argonauts in the early ‘90s. Chris believed his father would have been blown away by his involvement in the commercial.

Despite being the son of a comedy legend, Chris Candy walked onto the set without drawing attention to himself. He did not tell anyone who he was, wanting to be seen as just another actor. For most of the shoot, that plan worked. Few people recognized him, and he kept things quiet — until word started to spread.
Once his identity was known, conversations shifted. The actors working alongside him in the Burger Chain Gang, his fellow castmates in the ad, were excited to share their admiration for his father. They reminisced about John Candy’s best films, quoting lines and recalling moments that made them laugh growing up.
What was Chris Candy’s role in the Super Bowl ad?
Chris played a member of the Burger Chain Gang, which was a group of characters in a roast battle at the fictional Java Jam. Wearing an orange jumpsuit and a giant cheeseburger costume, he was in the middle of the comedic showdown between the Dunkin’ team, led by Ben Affleck, and rival coffee brands.
His moment came when Affleck’s character spotted the group. In full cheeseburger attire, Chris fired back with a line that quickly became a highlight of the commercial: “You don’t know my life. You don’t know what I’ve been through.” The delivery, mixed with the ridiculous setting, added to the humor of the moment.
