However, behind the curtains, their seemingly perfect life was faced with a harsh reality as the couple were faced with several challenges which included Elvis’ affairs with co-stars and Priscilla’s short-lived foray with her dance instructor.
All of these eventually resulted in their divorce in 1973, barely eight years after they tied the knot despite the birth of their daughter, Lisa Marie. Decades after the untimely death of the King of Rock and Roll in 1977, Priscilla has taken a nostalgic trip down their marriage lane. She opened up about the peculiarities of the challenges that rocked their relationship.
The challenges of Elvis and Priscilla’s relationship
While speaking during a panel discussion at MegaCon Orlando on Friday, February 7, Priscilla made a candid revelation about the challenges she faced in her marriage to the legendary Elvis. She explained that she was constantly subjected to mental traumas as tales of his love exploits with other women came to her hearing.
She pointed out that the infidelity was not exclusive to her ex-husband but rather reflected the poor societal standards prevalent at the time, where men, especially in the entertainment industry, could act unapologetically in such a manner. Priscilla acknowledged that it was quite difficult for her to adapt to the harsh reality and navigate a society dominated by men.
She found out about Elvis Presley’s infidelity through fan mail
The 79-year-old disclosed that while visiting one of their Palm Springs homes, she discovered a series of fan letters that contained startling details about her late ex-husband’s multiple extramarital affairs. The emails, which included multiple messages from various people, painted a vivid picture of extramarital affairs as the women engaged reminisced about their time with Elvis and showed their sincere gratitude to him.
However, according to Priscilla, this revelation, although it left her stunned and highly devastated, swiftly became an eye-opener for her about the relationship. She noted that the episode was the last straw that led to the breakdown of the marriage as she could no longer cope with the deceit.
