Things are taking a different turn from this year forward as Hollywood scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis is retiring from Halloween. The 65-year-old recently revealed her intention to take a step back from the spooky affair and allow those coming after her to take things up.
In Jamie’s words, she is taking her hands off the pumpkins, hanging up her butcher knives, and stepping away this year as the celebrations swing into full gear. She added that her kids are older now and would prefer she leave decorations to them, hence her decision.
Jamie Lee Curtis will not be watching her movies this holiday
While many households across America will be tuning in to Jamie’s Halloween classics, the iconic actress is better off seeing something else. She played Laurie Strode in the first of the Halloween series in 1978 and has reprised her role in subsequent installments, including Halloween Ends in 2022.
Despite choosing not to watch herself this holiday, Jamie is a big fan of her work as Laurie and had a hard time detaching from the character. She noted that making horror movies has a similar effect to viewing them, and having to play Laurie for the last time and with a new set of cast mates was difficult.
Is Jamie Lee Curtis retiring for good?
After a successful five-decade career marked by multiple awards and recognitions, Jamie still has more to come, with multiple projects in the works. She is back as Tess Coleman in the Freaky Friday sequel, Freakier Friday, which is scheduled for release in 2025.
She also has other projects lined up, including Gia Coppola’s The Last Showgirl, Ella McCay, and The Lost Bus by Paul Greengrass. During a chat with AARP last year, she admitted to feeling more energetic at 65, meaning she has no plans to retire from acting just yet.
