Rudolph will soar through the Christmas skies once again

You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen. But do you know the most festive theme of all? The famed Gaylord Texan Resort has announced that this Christmas season’s ICE! Exhibit will be themed around all things Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

The Gaylord Texan Resort is a hotel complex and convention center in Grapevine, right nearby Dallas, Texas. The premises also boasts “more than 400,000 square feet of meeting space, 88 meeting rooms and a maximum of 12 breakout rooms,” and an extravagant holiday event that will have nostalgia levels through the roof this winter thanks to help from the most famous reindeer of all.

On Thursday, organizers for the resort’s ICE! Exhibit announced that this year’s theme will revolve around Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. More specifically, it will pay visual homage to the 1964 stop-motion television special.

While the original holiday classic has a runtime of 52 minutes, the exhibit will focus on 10 key scenes from the film that, together, tell the story of Rudolph, the outcast reindeer whose glowing red nose ends up saving Christmas.

The plot has come under scrutiny among modern audiences, but the organizers behind this event are putting their love for the film on full display with colorful, towering ice arrangements and stunning festive lights.

Guests should be aware that warm clothing is highly recommended for anyone wishing to walk around among the icy displays; to keep everything in tact, the venue is kept at a brisk 9 degrees. Two million pounds of ice were used to create these colorful scenes.

For anyone able and interested, tickets to the Gaylord Texan Resort ICE! Exhibit are available via ICE.marriott.com.

Following its 1964 release, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, directed by Larry Roemer and narrated by the sound of Christmas himself Burl Ives, became a holiday classic. In fact, it is the longest continuously running Christmas TV special in the country. 2014 marked the 50th anniversary of its premiere, which was celebrated with themed postage stamps issued by USPS. It has long enjoyed a spot among the “top ten” of greatest Christmas movies of all time.
