While heading to Los Angeles from Cancun, Mexico in 2016, Selma Blair had an embarrassing encounter that would change the trajectory of her life. She got on the return flight with her then-boyfriend Jason Bleick and their son, Arthur Saint.
On the plane, Selma began crying and yelling concerning statements, saying “he” burns her private parts and would keep meals away from her. She was then bundled off the plane in a stretcher to be attended to by a nurse.
Selma Blair admits to her struggles with alcohol
Selma addressed her condition after arriving in Los Angeles, noting that she had too much alcohol in Mexico and hit her lowest point ever with liquor. She revealed during a recent conversation that the experience was embarrassing, and there was no justification for it. She recalled being dehydrated and feeling constantly hungover, which led to self-reflection and a resolve to ditch the bottle.

She issued a public apology via Vanity Fair, where she confessed to mixing her alcohol with medication, leading to her unusual behavior on the plane that would eventually lead to better life decisions. Selma has remained sober ever since.
Selma announced that she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2018 after about 40 years of unchecked pain and even brain tissue damage. Due to her health, Selma has taken a break from acting but looks forward to appearing in a few productions like The White Lotus so she gets to work with Mike White.
The 52-year-old has been in remission since 2021 and is strict about getting regular treatments and multiple MRI scans in a year. Selma is grateful to have access to procedures such as IVIG, which uses antibodies from healthy donors to help reduce her symptoms to a significant degree.
