Christmas Vacation has been a holiday staple since its debut in 1989 and has inspired more Christmas movies over the years. Three decades later, Chevy Chase and Randy Quaid are set to make another festive film with Christmas Letter starring Angus Benfield and Brian Doyle-Murray from Saturday Night Live.

Executive producer Gato Scatena assured fans that it will be a reminder of the old classic, and expressed his excitement for what is to come. This news comes after Chevy announced he is going to be a first time grandparent as his daughter Emily Chase is pregnant.

The movie is focused on an unemployed copywriter who spends the holidays trying to outshine his boastful wealthy friend by giving his family a memorable Christmas. As simple as the plot sounds, Chevy is sure to add twists and a lot of laughter to the story progression, and fans can hardly wait to see what he has in store. There is no certainty about who plays the lead role between Randy and Chevy; however, subsequent updates will clarify who plays what.

Chevy’s life beyond ‘Christmas Vacation’

Chevy played Clark Griswold, which he considers one of his most beloved roles. He previously expressed gratitude to Harold Ramis for guiding him through his character, which he would go on to reprise multiple times. Chevy was also popular on SNL where he spearheaded the “Weekend Update” segment, but he did not last long and went on to join Caddyshack shortly after.

Chevy left SNL due to altercations with colleagues and even got into a fistfight with his replacement, Bill Murray. However, he claims his then-girlfriend Jacqueline Carlin influenced his decision to quit. Chevy’s attitude has been a topic of discussion due to some of his interactions with Chris Columbus, for example. Chris was meant to direct Christmas Vacation but pulled out of the making because he could not tolerate Chevy.
