Carol Burnett celebrated her 91st birthday on April 26, delving further into the life of a nonagenarian with no plans for slowing down. She received a particularly memorable birthday treat in the form of a surprise message from actor and filmmaker Bradley Cooper.
A powerhouse on the stage, in film, and on television, Burnett has been in the industry for almost seven decades now. She went on to revolutionize television with her groundbreaking variety show, “The Carol Burnett Show, which laid strong foundations for the development of comedy TV and her program was one of the very first to be hosted by a woman. Now, this trailblazer just got a birthday surprise from the man she joked about wanting to “do” ahead of her big day.

On an April 24 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, host Kimmel recalled Burnett joking on Live with Kelly and Mark about wanting to “do” the A Star is Born actor before her 91st birthday. In response, Burnett reminded Kimmel, “Well, you know, my birthday is Friday.”

Well, Kimmel was way ahead of her, and told her, “We did reach out to Bradley and, well, he sent this.”
A video message then showed Cooper saying, “Hello, Carol Burnett, it’s Bradley Cooper. I just wanted to wish you a very happy 91st birthday.” He went on to reveal, “I’ve been such a massive fan of yours ever since I was a kid, watched your show religiously, and it’s a thrill to leave you this message. I hope to meet you one day and maybe even work together. I hope you have a great day, see ya.”
Burnett loved her present when the video concluded, cheering, “Oh, that is hysterical. I love that.”
A titanic career that isn’t slowing down
Burnett didn’t quite get her birthday wish as she outlined it to Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos. But, Kimmel assured her, “It’s not sex. It’s a step in that direction,” adding, “That’s how Bradley does it, first he sends a video message.”
The topic came up when Consuelos gushed about listening to Burnett’s stories on podcasts. “And you said something very funny, that, ‘Is there’s something you wanted to do that you haven’t done yet before you turn 90?’ And you said, ‘George Clooney,” Consuelos recalled.
Hearing this, Ripa wanted to know if 62-year-old Clooney had reached out, to which Burnett teased, “No, but now I’m thinking about Bradley Cooper.”
Burnett has kept herself busy since securing her spot as an industry legend. She is in the 2022 documentary film Betty White: A Celebration and is honored in last year’s Carol Burnett: 90 Years of Laughter + Love. She even has four episodes in AMC’s celebrated Better Caul Saul. But already 91-year-old Carol Burnett is onto the next project, not only appearing in the miniseries Palm Royale but also putting together a new project based on her own stay in a women’s boarding house during the ’50s.
