Shirley MacLaine made her Broadway debut in the 1954 musical The Pajama Game, earning critical acclaim for her performance. Her breakout role came in 1955 with the film adaptation of the same musical, earning her a Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year. She established herself as a talented actress with roles in films such as Some Came Running, The Apartment, Irma la Douce, The Turning Point, and Terms of Endearment.
The legendary actress recently celebrated her 90th birthday on the 24th of April with a huge announcement that surprised her fans. MacLaine unveiled her latest endeavor — her soon-to-be-released book, The Wall of Life, slated for publication on October 22, 2024.
The nonagenarian delved deeper into the book’s contents, disclosing that it will feature over 150 captivating photographs of her over the years from her archives. MacLaine also mentioned that the inspiration for creating a book stemmed from a collection of photos adorning the walls of her residence in Malibu.
“I have lived a wonderful life and I wanted to share it. All of the photos brought back such wonderful memories,” she noted. “About 45 years ago, I put ten or so framed photographs of friends and family and people I’ve worked with all grouped together on a living room wall. Everyone who came over loved to look at this montage, and so The Wall of Life was born. I’m pleased to share a selection of these photos — and some of the stories behind them — in this book.”
MacLaine previously shared her plans to celebrate her milestone birthday, by organizing an intimate dinner event with her closest companions. “We’re getting together and I hope to eat something good,” she revealed before the celebration.
The actress also reflected deeply on her life’s journey during her birthday celebration, expressing heartfelt gratitude for the countless blessings she has encountered along the way. “That I can keep working,” she added. “I have my friends and I am really healthy.”
