Kate Middleton shares a birthday portrait of Princess Charlotte
Amidst a flood of familial turmoil, the royal family has had cause to celebrate, as young Princess Charlotte celebrates her ninth birthday. To mark the occasion, Kensington Palace released a sweet photo taken by none other than Charlotte’s mom.
Charlotte is the second child and only daughter of Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, with Prince William, who is second in line of succession. She was born on May 2, 2015, and her full name, Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, is a tribute to her paternal grandfather, the king, Queen Elizabeth II, and the late Princess Diana.
On Thursday, the official social media page of the Prince and Princess of Wales shared a regal picture of Princess Charlotte dressed in cozy layers for a crisp spring day. Her long golden brown hair was kept loose to her elbows, and she wore a broad smile as she leaned comfortably near some flowers.
“Happy 9th Birthday, Princess Charlotte!” the caption reads. “Thank you for all of the kind messages today.” The caption further credits Kate as the photographer behind the sweet snap.
By time of writing, the post has received over two million views, with 85k likes, nearly 6k shares, and 3.7k comments all wishing Charlotte the happiest of ninth birthdays.
Kate, William, and their immediate family have been plagued with worry lately due to back-to-back health scares within the royal family. King Charles has been diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing treatment; this disrupted his performance of royal duties. Additionally, Kate received similar news after she was hospitalized for severe abdominal pain earlier this year. Her prolonged absence from the typical royal spotlight has since sparked a slew of various rumors concerning her health and the royal family’s handling of the situation.
This is one of the most prominent times in recent memory that multiple major members of the royal family have been diagnosed with cancer in such a close period of time.
For a time, though, there has been cause for celebration, a reprieve in the grief. Princess Charlotte’s ninth birthday celebration comes just after the sixth birthday of Prince Louis, who was born on April 23, 2018.
