Nancy Sinatra Jabs At Movie Casting For Late Father’s Highly Anticipated Biopic

Following reports of an upcoming Frank Sinatra biopic project by Martin Scorsese, which had fans excited, the late singer’s eldest daughter, Nancy Sinatra recently expressed her displeasure at the proposed casting via social media. She took to social media and reposted a photo and caption that clearly announced her disapproval of the stars set to play her parents.

With news of Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence collaborating to play the famous Sinatra duo, Frank and Ava Gardner, several opinions have made rounds on social media. Nancy appeared to agree with one which read “Sorry Leo and JLaw, you will never be them,” alongside an old photo of Frank and Ava.

It is not Martin’s first time trying to make a Frank biopic, and his efforts were hindered by Ol’ Blue Eyes’ family. “Certain things are very difficult for a family, and I totally understand. But if they expect me to be doing it, they can’t hold back certain things,” he said in 2017 after his 2014 attempt was blocked by Frank’s estate. “The problem is that the man was so complex. Everybody is so complex— but Sinatra in particular.”

Martin seems to have newfound hope about Frank’s story being told, as he appeared to throw in the towel years back. “We can’t do it! I think it is finally over. They won’t agree to it. Open it up again and I’m there!” he said at the time. With Nancy’s recent action on X, it appears that surviving members of the Sinatra household might make it difficult for Martin to create yet again.

Amid the excitement about the “New York, New York” crooner’s biopic, it has yet to be confirmed with no studio on the project. However, reports say Sony is likely to take it up. Leonardo is said to be excited about his role alongside Lawrence, whom he worked with in Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up.

Should this biopic be successful, it would be Lawrence’s first time working with Martin, who has collaborated with Leonardo on several award-nominated modern classics like Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, The Wolf of Wall Street, and more recently Killers of the Flower Moon. Martin is also looking to star Leonardo in another 2024 feature film adaptation of David Grann’s The Wager.
