Tom Selleck has been a familiar face in the world of television and film since the ’60s, and became a household name as Thomas Magnum in the ’80s series Magnum, P.I. Years later, now 79, Selleck is still wooing fans with his rugged looks while posing for a rare photoshoot at his ranch.
The shoot comes ahead of the release of his upcoming book, You Never Know: A Memoir. The introspective work is expected to hit shelves in early May and in anticipation of the big release, Selleck sat down with People to discuss his life, career, and happy marriage, and every bit of it has reminded fans why they love Selleck as “what a real man looks like.”

Earlier this week, the social media pages for People shared a cover image of Selleck. The Blue Bloods icon is seen wearing a denim shirt buttoned up, head tilted with a knowing smile. The cover text promises tales of “Success, failure, [and] getting lucky.”

“Tom Selleck is reflecting on his ‘lucky life,'” the caption reads. “In this week’s issue, the ‘Blue Bloods’ star opens up about his ‘accidental’ career, four decades with his wife Jillie and his upcoming memoir ‘You Never Know’ — out on May 4.”
Fans are lauding Selleck as an exemplary man
Selleck’s entry into the world of acting offered no hints at just how far he would go there. Indeed, he started off as an athlete with a basketball scholarship and a business major. His first gig on-screen was playing a basketball player in a Pepsi commercial, then he was recruited as a bachelor on The Dating Game. For this reason, Selleck asserts, “It is really the story of an accidental career. I’d never taken an acting class. I had no training, no desire.”
Selleck hasn’t qualified as a gameshow bachelor for 37 years now, following his marriage to beloved wife Jillie Mack in 1987. The two met four years prior, while she was performing in a London production of Cats.
For how recognizable he is on-screen, Selleck generally lives a private life, editing episodes of the Blue Bloods script with Jillie at his side, and ending the day quietly with “a cigar and a glass of whiskey.”
Fans have become enchanted with everything the photoshoot and interview reveals about Selleck, from his enduring rugged looks to his priorities. One fan gushed, “Sexiest man ever,” while another argued, “He needs a statue. People can be reminded forever what a real man looks like.”
Another agreed, saying, “The definition of a Man all the way around. Handsome and devoted to his wife and daughter.”
